Divine Paper: Peter Gentenaar

Sublime paper sculptures by Dutch artist Peter Gentenaar. More than 100 of these were suspended beneath the vaulted roof of the church of Saint-Riquier in northern France during a classical music festival.

Each of Gentenaar's sculptures begins as a huge, flat sheet of pulp. As the pulp dries, it shrinks and causes its bamboo framework to buckle, creating forms reminiscent of curling leaves, dying or awakening plant matter, crysallises, billowing fabric, unfurling wings...
